Jenny Returns to Her Winning Ways

In the first Carcassonne game after her birthday, Jenny bounced back from her previous defeat to eeck out a close win. Despite the towers working against her once again, key farmer placement resulted in the walk off win of 222 to 215. Jenny leads the seires by an impressive 7 to 3 margin. As always the final layout is below.

Despite the attention Carcassonne receives, we've had a few played a few other games over the last week or so.

Upper Deck's Comic Card Game VS finally made its way onto the table. I can see how this might be a fun game, and I like how it mimics the back and forth blow of a superhero battle, but overall the game was a little to complex for our tastes.

We ever popularMagic: The Gatheringonce again. While it isn't a game that Jenny will typically play, she did pretty well. Whether or not it will work it's way into the general rotation has yet to be seen.

It must have been card week as we've had a few more games of
The Settlers of Catan Card Game.Part typical collectible card game (CCG), part tile laying, and part resource management, this game does enough things well to keep us interested.

The final highlight of the week was a few rounds of Scattergories with our friends Scott and Trish. I think Jenny may have been leading when we stopped, but we didn't really keep track. We really wanted to play Apple to Apples, but couldn't find a copy in town. I'm guessing that most copies were bought up by RAs at Liberty to use as ice breakers.

Beyond all that, Abraham started "school" on Wednesday. He goes to a local church a few hours for "Mom's Morning Out." Jenny enjoyed the break and the one-on-one time with Ben, but will have to find ways to fill the time.

MOPS starts tonight for Jenny. She is on the steering committee and is the head of the host committee. She is looking forward to reconnecting with her friends there.

August 29 2006 Jenny's 29th Golden Birthday

It was Jenny's Golden Birthday today. For those not familiar with the term, the Golden Birthday is, according to Wikipedia: "One's golden birthday, also called a champagne birthday, is the day when the age one turns and the date of birth coincide (e.g. someone turning 20 on September 20th celebrates his golden birthday)."
You can catch the link here.

As you can see, Jenny looked as beautiful as ever. I fall in love again and again with her smile. I like this picture.

What better way to celebrate a birthday than good food and a game. We had steak for dinner, and a blooming onion. We stopped at Sonic on the way home for ice cream, and cruised on home from there.

Jenny got some nice gifts. Some clothes, a massage, a watch, and a Sirius radio for the van. Not bad all the way around.

With dinner done, the boys baths completed, and Abraham in bed, we sat down for a b-day game of Carcassonne.

Jenny was leading the series at 6 games to 2 so far, and I haven't won in a while. While it may have been a golden birthday, it was nothing but fools gold for Jenny tonight. The towers came out on a near 60 point city, and some clever maneuvering gave me a 20+ road. All in all, she played well, but luck was not on her side, and I won 324 to 215. To add insult to injury, a skunk.

Despite the set back Jenny still leads the series at 6 games to 3, and I'm sure she will go on to beat me several times before I have another win. Despite any reassurance, Jenny felt she needed to hide her shame.
Look away.... I'm hideious
I'm just happy she didn't demand a Boggle or Scramble, because this would have been a very different post. Maybe next time.
